Are you experienced or qualified?
Hi, my name’s Howard Head and I’ve been playing bass for over 15 years as a professional freelancer and enthusiast. Over these years I’ve played countless shows (Hyde Park, Isle of Wight, Y Not, 100 Club) spanning different genres (Pop, Rock, Blues, Jazz, Hip Hop) I’ve produced 5 books and an online course.
I’ve got a degree in Music Industry Practice BA hons in Bass, studied at the Academy of Contemporary Music, studying under the tutelage of Brian Henry (Soul II Soul, Shola Ama, Incognito), Sandy Beales (One Direction, Wheatus, Loick Essien), Arron McSporran (Virvum, Mark Letteri), and Kevin Glasgow (Tommy Smith, Tim Garland). Can you sing backing vocals?
I certainly can sing backing vocals. I usually spend most of my time in 3 piece bands where backing vocals makes such a massive difference in both overall sound and visuals. On rare occasions I can even give the lead singer a rest.
Who's your biggest influence as a bass player?
I love bassists who play to serve the song:

Do you still have long hair?
I no longer have long hair and I need to update my pictures…now got a cheeky skinfade and growing a groomed beard. Theres stuff on Insta, TikTok and YouTube.
What equipment are you rocking?
I’ve got a custom Sei bass made from the master artisans at The Bass Gallery that has Bartolini preamp and pickups. It’s my dream bass 😍
I use a TC Electronic bass head, with 2×12 cab.
I have effects toys (Sansamps, fuzz, compression)…I usually emasculate the guitar player due to how big my board is 😅. It’s completely quiet, all professional and no noise or buzz!
I have a Moog SubPhatty when the occasion calls for it.
Recording, I use an Universal Audio Apollo Interface.
Can you drive?
I can certainly drive, and passed my test as soon as I turned 17! I try to keep my wagon clean and professional, and even don’t mind car pooling if other musicians don’t live too far away.
What music are you into?
I’m into anything sincere, authentic and groovy!
Started off into Rock, indie rock and especially Brit pop. Then I really got into funk, soul and neo soul. Now I find myself doing blues and pop haha
And oh god do I love Japanese jazz fusion.
Looks?
I look after my appearance, physique and personal hygiene. I have more pictures on Instagram, TikTok & YouTube. 5,5″ so rest assured the lead singer will stand out more!
